The centerpiece of your Thanksgiving meal would be the roasted turkey & it has been the king of your dinner table ever since Thanksgiving traditions began in the US. There really are lots of great recipes out there on how to roast turkey right but take note that the simpler the roast turkey recipe is, the better. It’s best to just have the basic ingredients so that your turkey really will still taste like that of turkey & not like the other ingredients that you’re using.
I tried not to peek inside at all for an hour so the temperature would stay even. After two hours I’ve pasted it for about four times and lowered temp for 350 because this turkey was browning fast. We ended up pulling it out after about 2 hours and 20 minutes and it was actually so done that it fell apart! So I’m not overly pleased about the instructions, I should have roasted my turkey in lower temp to avoid any drying.
There is few bad things to mention about this roaster. Electric cord is very short. It is actually under 30 inches so you need to have the outlet right next to it, could be a problem for many. Lid handle and side handles get hot, you need to use a towel or oven mitt to handle them while the roaster is on.
First you need to keep the chicken at room temperature for several hours so the meat is at room temperature when you put in the oven. When you pull out of the refrigerator, you can already add salt mixed with minced garlic and chopped herbs made mostly from rosemary, sage and thyme to be integrated in order of quantity. I often use a ready-made bolognese brine (salt flavored) integrated with a lot of rosemary and 2 cloves of garlic. The salt should be added at the rate of 8-10 g per kg of meat. So, if the chicken weighing 1.5 kg, it takes 12-15 g of salt. The salt is sprinkled with half inside the chicken, placing the rear opening, and half externally massaging the skin of the chicken.
The Nesco 4805-14 is packaged with a removable steel rack. This helps you bake easier and allows you to roast foods without soaking them in fat. The roaster is also fitted with cool-touch handles so that you can safely transport it.
Is there enough stove and refrigerator space? Turkeys don’t leave much room for food inside the oven, so consider using a roaster ovens and free up the oven space for other baked goods.
The dressing still is considered the best accompaniment to your turkey then it is followed a close 2nd by some mashed potatoes, deviled eggs & the potato salad. With those dishes to accompany your turkey for sure you’ll have a really delicious dinner which is good but turkey should still be left just the way it is, taste should still be that of turkey.
Now calculate how many hours your turkey will take to cook. It takes about an hour per 5 pounds of turkey, completely thawed and unstuffed. Stuffed turkeys will take about an hour longer. Leave a half hour of time to stuff, season and get the bird in the oven. Leave an additional half hour at the end of cooking for the bird to sit, cool a bit, stuffing removed and be carved. Count back from the time you decided you want to serve the meal and set your alarm if needed. Try to get a good nights sleep.
